LEGISLATION HAS FAILED HERE! IT HAS FAILED TERRIBLY…

Holding the laptop in my hand, I stare at the screen for a couple of hours, unable to write, unable to move, unable to take a stand. Never have I felt this helpless in my entire life. My mind is gone numb. I cannot think of anything else. This is heart-wrenching. How can a human kill another human with such brutality? The image of the girl child is constantly pinching at the back of my mind, and I try to calm it with a prayer for her soul to rest in peace.

Can she, though? Can her soul rest in eternal peace? I continuously pray for her but deep down, I feel it is utterly impossible for an innocent soul to rest in peace if no justice is done to her. If you are in pain, you cannot live in peace until you medicate it with the doctor’s prescription and then only you are mentally in peace, and now you think that the child’s soul will? Even though her murderers are still alive and living freely, under no obligation to answer anyone or to face any legislation. How can an innocent soul rest in peace then?

But you know what the worst part is? The major dilemma lies in the statements of our governmental officials. The irony is that a law minister who is obliged to look after the law and order situation is saying that we should look at the matter after 4 days. I mean, what kind of a human will respond to such a scenario with statements like this? Yes only one kind can. The kind who has lust for power, the kind who has no respect for a human life, the kind who is so below the benchmark of humanity that a child’s death is not more than just a figure gone missing. Yes, this is the kind of people who are ruling us today. A country with Leaders like Mr Rana Sanaullah, incidents like this are no irony.

But what now? What can I do? I am so helpless that I cannot do anything but pray, pray for the little angel’s soul and even than, my mind is making me question that because I know there is practically no logic behind it. It is practically a lie we all are telling ourselves in order to convince ourselves that her soul is in peace. All the people praying for her, all the candles that are light up in the streets, all the media channels covering the incident, they are nothing but mere signs of our failure depicting very clearly that we’ve lost the battle. There is nothing else to loose now. It is such a shame that our country has failed to protect its women and children. How can then we claim to be safe? We don’t give a damn about the nuclear power our country has, but if it fails to protect its own citizens then we’ve lost and we’ve failed so terribly as a nation.

Its been more than 70 years of our independence but we have failed to achieve even the basics. Back in 1947, in the times when our country gained independence, such rape cases were observed and even today, after 70 years of independence, we are unable to protect our women. Even today, children are raped and murdered with no signs of the murderer. The smell of fear and terror are still in the atmosphere of our beloved country, rather they have emerged much stronger and powerful now. But our leaders will remain such obtuse jerks with nothing else than the lust for power.

But I, I cannot ignore and forget the murder of Zainab as another incident of rape  because if she can be murdered, any other girl can. If she can be raped, so can be anyone else. This needs to stop now. This is the right time or else we will have to sacrifice more Zainabs in the future . We must act because from now on, not any women will live in peace because of the fear that anything can happen to anyone, anytime.

We call this our homeland; we call this our home. Home is for safety; if there is no safety, it is no home. I request the government officials to please take this matter seriously before its too late, before another Zainab gets murdered or raped and before every women starts to live with fear all their lives.

Lets take the oath that we will not live in peace, until Zainab’s soul does not rests in peace. We want justice for Zainab; we want justice, safety and protection for every women and every persons living in this country. We want peace. Lets hope that one day, we achieve them all.
