A robust social safety net should be a compulsion in every human society, especially in third-world countries like Pakistan where the government fails to provide safety in terms of household income. It is immensely important that in such societies people with a descent earning like people from the business community come together to support the less privileged. Living in Hunza and working for a safety net institution has made me realize that in places like Hunza, where the business community is comparatively stronger, they need to come together and build a platform that can work towards establishing a society that helps the marginalized and underprivileged lot such as people with disability, widows and the uneducated. In places where the government fails to cater to the needs of such people, the community should come together and respond to the call of the needy lot. It is utterly disappointing and disheartening that despite enormous welfare institutions in place, the marginalized community remains underserved.
