Ever since I joined the organization that I am currently part of, I felt like a misfit, like someone that was not meant for the job. I always thought I could do better, at a better place where there are opportunities for growth. What I didn’t know was that I was here for a reason. Maybe life was teaching me something. Maybe this was an opportunity in disguise.
I mean yes, professionally there was not much to learn and grow but personally, as humans, it was the best place to interact with people especially those that had fewer resources. The opportunity to meet people that are not as blessed in terms of resources as we are and to listen to their painful stories instilled empathy in my heart, the heart that was turned cold by experiencing things that life threw at me.
For humans to interact in a world that has very much turned cold and indifferent towards human suffering, it’s very important to have empathy for another human’s suffering.
We all come across events in our life that makes us feel very dejected, and hopeless. In those times, when we meet people who feel empathy for our pain, who treat us as humans and listen to our pain gives us strength. I have, for instance, met people in my life that had played a lifesaver for me without even knowing it, and that too by just being empathetic in my times of crisis. For reasons like these, it’s very important to be nice to people, to be empathetic towards them, especially towards strangers as we don’t know what everyone is dealing with in their lives.
Very few places give you the opportunity to understand human nature, to build your character and my workplace has been one of those. So I feel immensely grateful to life for giving me this opportunity to interact with humans at such a grassroot level, to understand what affects them in their daily lives, and to build resilience and empathy and strengthen my character.
So dear reader, if you ever faced the choice to be empathetic or to be indifferent, always choose empathy. You never know who’s life you will be saving by making it a little easier.
Love,
The girl who writes!
